perfect sunshine

Kevin

We used to play together

every day

our houses close enough

that we could comfortably walk

to each other's bedrooms

Five years of school together

friends every day

even after you fell of my tyre swing

into the nettle patch beneath.

Then the academic year changed

and our birthdays

split us into different years

and it was no longer cool

to play with a 'younger kid'

even though I was only a month older

our worlds were a gulf apart

and I'd just like you to know

that Meccano still makes me think of you.
