take away these pots
these dead tomato plants
these packets of tulip bulbs that need to be planted.
Let the greenhouse windows
frost over with skeletal ferns
as midwinter sunlight
pierces and dazzles the glass.
Light the parrafin heater:
fill the space with the earthy,
oily scent of my childhood;
the smell of my Wolverhampton studio.
Take me on these beds of sand and compost
water the earth with our sweat and passion
and start the planting seasone early.
