fluffy white clouds
sailing against the blue
lockdown depression

digging in the clay
on the side of the canal
we make tiny dinosaurs
in spite of Father McNulty
insisting they're not real.
A seam of muddy coal
dug out for Mum's fire
and carried home triumphantly
"You've saved me a shilling."
Tiny pieces of jet
and the iridescent shells
of freshwater mussels;
the stink of a pan of hot fat
when there's chips for tea.
