The Necromantic Tome

“Quiet, please,” she takes the book
down from the shelf and traces out
the ancient text with words that look
to be of flame and subtle doubt.
Not for mortal eyes, this tome
and yet, with courage built of hope
(and father’s heavy hand at home)
she teases out a little rope
of spellcraft that will give her friends,
these ghosts that haunt her from the past,
a surer means to make amends
if only such a spell be cast.
