She Spoke Too Soon

She wore a diamond
in the hollow of her throat:
a peg
for a supra-sternal notch
that kept her vocal cords
in perfect tune.

What a prize she was
for a collector of music boxes
who cut out her throat
with a hatchet
but who was disappointed
to find it flawed.

LD, I have responded to your comment about your beautiful piece of art - and left my e-mail addy - Hope that's okay?

All the best to you, and I enjoyed today's writing, if a little like a murder thriller, for my liking - I am too sensitive a soul for my own good sometimes! x

That's most kind of you. I think I may have to market these as macabre children's poems ;)

Macabre children's poems. Hmmmm.

This one is so different in some respect but I just can't put my finger on it.

I still could envision it all and that's what counts
