Arcade

Flashing lights,
pink elephant promises.
Play 'till you win.

*chuckles* Super joiner! I believe I did a drabble once on this theme. :) Gotta love the arcade and its hollow promise.

Note: verification word -> sperm. Talk about play until you win. ;)

Thank you,

*laughs* @ your verification word.

Perhaps I can find how to turn them off.

There's something about the garish colours of arcades and their promises of fortune. We want to believe them when we know we shouldn't.

So true!

I can resist these days.

This just got me thinking this morning.

How much research do you think has gone into the colours and the musical sounds?

Do you think they have researched what colours trigger the response they are looking for. The one where we give up our inhibitions and believe in luck.

Same goes for the music.

I bet that they have done these studies in Vegas. You walk in there and it's like something is controlling your brain.

"Put the money in the machine and pull the handle. Ignore your common sense that the machines are rigged for the house. Just believe you are going to win millions with one little dollar." (cue music and flashing lights)

You're probably right about Vegas. Seaside arcades just evolve, I think. There were still machines in there that took pre-decimal money (pre 1974)

I love this Rachel, so evocative of British seaside. Amazing they still have pre-decimal machines.

It is, isn't it? I love them, I just don't spend the money!
