Still Life with Cold Tea

Jars of brushes, pencils,pens;
(one of screwdrivers and nail files)
two bottles of PVA glue
and a tin of low-tac spray.
Books of poetry, plays,
pages of a printed manuscript
with corrections in blue.
A tin of mints, one of tablets,
one of varnish next to apiece of sandpaper
wrapped around a pack of cards.
A rubber band, twisted
becomes a Möbius strip,
an allegory of life
in this world of dichotomy.
Is she a writer or an artist?
Both?
Neither?
A discarded knave of hearts,
torn at one corner and a apple core
with six pips missing.

She was so easily tempted.
