decaying under the heat
flesh becoming molten
as the skin turns to leather
the pattern of fungal bloom
spreading from dots to patches
until the whole is covered by a fuzz
of brilliantly coloured patches
releasing gases to the air
and shrivelling,
shrivelling into darkness.
