turning to cloud cover

obsessive
he scours the clay
at the water's edge
looking for semi-precious.
A lad from school told him
a hundred pieces was worth a lot of money.
He has fifty-four
and has looked everywhere
within an hour's walk of home
and still needs forty-six,
arranged in the nooks of his scrap-wood fort.
He counts them again,
and again,
but the next day they've all gone.
The lad from school
knew where he kept them
but denies the theft.
