28th September 2019

a patch of brightness
between fast-moving clouds
birch tree bendings

waste ground
there used to be a car park
multi-storey,
xconcrete stained by rust
closed for years
listed unsafe.
When they pulled it down
the land blossomed.
False acacia trees, buddleia,
brambles, wild rose,
cornflower, daisies and clover.
Now a new notice
tacked to the fence posts:
Planning Order.
This beautiful space
to become another fast food drive-through.
We only have thirty
in this little town.
