Guilt and Regret
42.
It doesn't matter
how many times you tell me
it was the right thing to do,
I will always feel guilt
about putting her to sleep.
She didn't want to go;
fought all the way
and died terrified and crying.
Of course I feel guilty;
she trusted me
and I discarded her
when she needed me most.
