teach an old dog new tricks.
I thought I knew about gardening
but a YouTube video
gives me some pointers.
Toilet roll bean planters;
egg carton seed trays
bramble canes to repel slugs.
My father was a gardener
and if it taught me anything
it was that gardening is hard work
and potatoes are not worth the trouble
His dismay the year of the potato blight,
when all that work amounted to naught
but a bonfure of tainted crops
and there's no need for the lines of cabbages
and the harvest-at-Christmas Brussels
when no-one actually likes them.
