garden lettuce
washed by the rain

this packet of seeds
holds a promise to the future.
I imagine potted plants;
lush greens filling the house
with life and air.
Inevitable,
the pot of tiny seedlings
is too much to cope with
and I don't have the patience
to pot up more than a dozen.
Maybe six will survive
to die on the bathroom windowsill.
