reaching with crepuscular rays

let's not use those glasses
they're fine crystal
so save them 'for best'
The same with the silver cutlery
in their wooden felt-lined box
saved for best
in case the Queen drpos in for tea
and the Front Room
no children in there,
no dogs
and definitely no boxes of storage.
We keep it For Best.
The only time we used it
was after Mom's funeral
when the opened the Front Door
and allowed the people in
(and who were they, anyway?
people from her church, neighbours,
the nosy headmaster from my school)
and our sister stole the crystal glasses,
the heirloom silver
and the wedding ring she never took off.
