I traded orgasms for life:
if I'd stayed male,
I'd have killed myself a long time ago
the disphoria would have done me in
at eighty miles an hour
into a motorway bridge.
Now that I'm female
orgasms are few and far between;
the long hill of fulfillment
too long and too far to travel up
and on the rare occasions I manage
the mountain path I climb
has no dip to careen down
shouting with joy:
just a little step
like my grandmother's stoop
in the brick hollow darkness of her back yard.
