tension rises
as the lockdown increases
no walking
no talking
no leaving the house
except for food or medicine or work.
Family members are far away
too far to bubble;
besides, one of them is working
and thus a source of pathogens.
Bending the rules is worth the fine.
A hug now costs a thousand pounds
and the threat of speading the virus.
If only it was rats and fleas
at least we'd understand
and not have dark dreams
of buying a suit for my long-dead father.
