herbaceous perennials
dessicated by the sun
flattened by wind

I was ten
or seven or nine
when we had the last party
at my parent's house.
I don't recall who was there
except for my friend Kevin
from the house with an oak tree,
and Mom made me a cake
with piped icing greetings:
Happy Birday, (deadname)
and we laughed.
