layers of cigarette smoke
hovering in the room
as I play with a toy from the jumble sale.
Saturday afternoon
and Mum and I queued at the village hall
while Dad worked the morning shift.
Wrestling on the telly
my mother's streak of violence
as she shouts for a headlock.
Dad smokes his Players
as he waits for the pools results.
