wet and blustery
long grass on the lawns
unexpected cornflowers

in the darkness
a church clock rins out
eleven of the evening.
last walk around the block
the murmur of voices in the pizza shop
as they clean before closing.
two dogs trotting
sniffing at the daily posts
while a cat watches from a low wall.
They are oblivious
and I want my bed.
