drizzling rain
hissing in displeasure
passing cars

I don't see the tattered wallpaper.
I see our ancient cat
blunting the tips of her claws.
I don't see the chewed table leg
but the puppy having teething problems.
I don't see the messy tiles outside the kitchen;
just the grandson smashing chalk eggs
to get the toy dinosaurs out
or the daughter playing CSI:Barbie.
The edge of the door still has marks
for the children's heights
and my false front tooth
reminds me of Beltane
and a garden bonfire.
