hard frost
at seven in the morning
the fencing guys

we watched the rabbits
frolic in the field by the railway station
as the light chased away the shadows
and the day took us from each other.
Back to life; back to reality:
your lilting song as I dropped you off;
left you to husband and children,
drove back the sixty miles home
and an hour of sleep before work.
