the protagonist
seems perpetually overwhelmed
by the world about him
like a bit of sky with one lug
hammered between two edge pieces
of an historical institution.
Kids come to play
because he lives in a big house
but he hasn't two pennies to his name.
his mum has a strict budget
and a strict sense of morality.
She tells him his friends are not friends at all
and (spoiler alert) she's proved to be right
before she dies.
