as Canadian wildfires rage

sound like pigeons
nestling in a roof space.
A distant police siren;
the church clock, chiming,
and a child screaming from a terraced house.
Music from car speakers
compete as drivers wait for deliveries
outside the closing pizza shop;
soapy water flung on cobbles;
streetlights glitter on broke glass.
