Dad would take a week off work
just to cut the hedges
around his half-acre plot.
a century-old border
made up of hawthorn and holly
cut with a pair of shears and a ladder
an canvas sheet full of trimmings
dragged to a corner of the orchard and burned
on his perpetual bonfire.
