paw prints
over my clean floor
an acre of mud

hauling the dog
past the neighbour's house
with all the cats in the window.
The man next door to them tells me
"let him chase them all away."
The crap in his garden, it seems,
and dig up his potted plants.
Outside the shop
a man with a greyhound shouts at me
for my barking terror
and it's another notch on a bad day
when outside the house a staff member
from the nearby school
parks their bungalow-sized four-by-four
outside our house,
blocking the pavement
and the light from the local sun
while neighbourhood kids take turns
riding two-stroke bikes helmetless,
up and down, up and down,
chucking crisp packets and Monster cans
onto my patch of garden.
