a pair of magpies
pulling twigs from the birch
overclouded day

foetid water
where a plant pot's drainage is blocked.
I can't get the stink
off my fingertips.
Like the yellow skin
when I used to smoke
it remains, stubborn and unmoving
as does the taint of fascism
in the rotting backbone of England.
