downpour
didn't I just cut that grass?

the streets filled with rubbish
and fly tipping rises exponentially
with the introction of green bin charges.
I recall the despair of the nation
when sweets arrived packaged in plastic
in the late sixties and the campaign of 'Keep Britain Tidy,'
Now the green spaces are choked with plastics
and the motorway is full of piss
lobbed from drivers without time to stop.
I wonder if kids in fifty years
will think fondly of the hedgerows of now
when at least there was a bit of green
to hand the plastic bags on.
