cold rain
dampening my desire
dog walk

The flowering of snowdrops heralds spring
and in the supermarket, summer seeds
the bells of future hope begin to ring
when all I see outside is twigs and weeds
Four packets for a pound can save me money
for 'tis money I can spend on eye's delight
and though I would save more by buying nothing
this dream of summer's blooms will ease the night.
Nasturtiums, first, so colourful and tasty
and a second pack to sow some extra beds.
Cornflowers to which the bees flock hast'ly;
Antirrhinums with their gentle speaking heads
Two packs of runner beans to climb the fences
celebrating summer with five senses.
