IX.III
If religion is the opium of the masses
as Marx had said in Eighteen forty-three
then the priests became the only ones with passes
to improve the life of those in poverty.
The conditions of the poor in every city,
the direct result of wealth restoring power,
had become the purview of the rich and shitty
and a class divide that widened every hour.
If religion was the drug to soothe the peasants
then the factions of religion were cartels
where every Heaven promised to be pleasant
and those without a fix would taste the Hells.
