Breaking Genetic Tradition
there were two girls born before I arrived
and I came as a surprise: tradition,
assuming Dad's genetics still applied,
meant having two in procreation mission.
First they had Elizabeth, who came with whirl
of aptitude for learning maths and English, too
and four years after her, a sister came, a girl
in love with animals whom they called Sue.
That was their lot, according to the lives
of both parents, who came from sibling pairs
as far as family history arrives
but then another kid after six years.
And though the docs assumed me male and cis
I should have been my cousin Julie's sis.
