On Thy Father's Astonishment
Thy father would say "Stone the Crows" when ought
went full amiss, in place of such phrases
thou casually blaspheme, like those you caught
from Christendom like 'fucking Hell' thou crazes.
Yet 'Stone the Crows' hath Aussie origin
and he had never travelled to those lands
for those clever birds aligned with devil sin
do kill and steal the farmer's new-born lambs.
And thou uses in astonishment a swear
referring to a sexual act: "Fuck me,"
means nothing as to what thou said but care
be exercised it not be literally.
And older, in thy Grandma's day, taken aback, she'd quip
she'd "go to the foot of thy stairs" but ne'er make the trip.
