does art imitate what it represents?

The question leads

only to a dead end;

for of course it does;

but in doing so,

it elevates the subject

and imbues it with the human condition;

and the art becomes something else;

an evocation,

a memory,

the scent of a winter's day in Albuquerque

when the last bus has gone

and the bars are all closed.
