and then in Middle School
which was Church of England,
we all trooped up to St. Lawrence's
to sing Christmas Carols
for the old folks of the parish
and the church was mid-renovation
with all the stone flags removed from the nave
but we weren't allowed to see the skeletons
they'd recovered from beneath.
It was years later I discovered
