The twenties
have brought pandemics
and killer heat waves;
ten million dead in the last year
of something that didn't exist
the year before that.
The thirties will be the decade
of global warming turned catastrophic;
megafire, megaflood, megatyphoon, heat domes:
these will replace the gentle seasons.
The forties will brind mass extinction
of animals, of people, of ecologies.
The fifties will bring the Final Goodbye
where civilisation crashes
from a lack of food, air, water, medicine;
all in short supply
because we killed the living planet.
