tasting the early morning rain
scurrying rats

my younger self
full of the infatuation of youth
and a woman who shows some interest.
With hindsight I can see how she teases,
encourages
receives my gifts with ebullient praise
only to sell or regift them.
Her dad is something big in the seedy crime world
and her disabled sister
flashes me her chest with a wink
but I only have eyes for the elder
and her boyfriend has a gun.
