lying amongst the poppies

a wire fence
has been there for twenty years
keeping the garden safe
and the dogs safely here.
Except for the day
we took down the old shed
and the sudden gap
let a visiting spaniel
kill the neighbour's cat.
Now the newest dog
can clear the fence
and chase the neighbour's new one.
