grey clouds
but no sign of rain
five a.m. barking

what about 'homely'
or 'rustic'
but she shakes her head
and tells him it stinks.
The dog finds a dead rat
and she imagines rollercoasters
while her dad opens and closes the door,
trying to waft away the smell
and pretends this is a grand adventure
instead of a summer Hell.
