my first motorbike
at seventeen years old;
a Honda-90 step-through
like a ninety-cc moped.
Dad gives me a surprise gift:
a keyring with the picture of an elephant
and "I can do a ton."
I treasured that keyring
as the only spontaneous gift
he was ever prompted to give.
