I should have cut the lawn
yesterday

planting bulbs
at the base of the fruit trees;
anamones, iris and tulips.
My parents had thousands of daffodils
among the trees of their tiny orchard
and they'd sell them for thirty pence
for a generous bunch.
A tiny bit of extra income
to stay one step ahead
of the poverty line.
