morning, yawning
the big dog displays his tummy
big stretch

first frost
cutting down the soft plants
clearing the garden
apples left on the tree
turn inedible; left for the birds
to gorge themselves before winter.
Rosehips glistening on bare branches;
too late to save for syrup
and the profusion of fungi
taunt us with our lack or recognition.
