garden spider
smaller than my fingernail
spinning a web larger than my outstretched hand.
It takes her five seconds
for each strut between sixteen radials
silk from spinarret to back leg
hook with front leg, attach, move round one space.
How long will her web last?
A day? maybe two?
I wonder what the ratio is
insects caught to calories burned;
and does she know
it's going to rain today?
