the address list for Christmas cards;
crossing off an ex-lover,
a newly deceased friend,
a relative who despises the way you live;
and adding in the lady at the charity shop
who always gives you a big smile;
the bloke at the end of the road
who always seems lonely
and the little boy from number thirty
who said he'd seen your old dog
when he got lost in the woods.
Always with a smile
and a nod to Tony Rossi
who crossed off the dead
in his little book of friends.
