turning the garden to mud

two cedar trees
on the horizon as I walked the dogs
I always thought they looked like
King Kong and Godzilla
perpetually squaring up.
If they still exist I can't see them;
forty years later and the fields I walked
have all been built over.
Suburbia and Green Belt preservation
are opposing strategies
and Kong always dies in the end.
