overnight rain
the beauty of a sunny day
washed away

Mum liked her soaps
though never "Coronation Street"
which she thought too brutal
and too close to her upbringing
to ever offer escapism.
She preferred "Emmerdale Farm"
when it was still just the farm
and not the rest of the town,
and "Crossroads," where the action
was never dramatic and where she knew
the people who acted locally.
She was never bothered by Aussie soaps
and American ones were too fake to bear
but she'd have been horrified by "Eastenders"
had she lived to see it.
