I think I was lucky
to be born in the sixties
although my parents weren't hippies
and my father was still traumatised
from the recent global events.
Milk came daily in glass bottles;
pop had tuppence back on return
and everything came in paper bags.
No mains water and no gas
but education was free
and if you needed a doctor you got one
without waiting weeks for an appointment.
Buses were frequent,
electronics were for universities
and kids could be out wandering
until the streetlights came on.
