morning sunshine
across the garden path
effusive buddleia

cartons of gooseberries;
a gift from a fellow trainee,
added to a gallon of sugar water;
each one popped like an eyeball
in the darkening solution.
The beginnings of wine,
fermented and matured over the coming months
a taste of summer, remembered.
