I don't know
if the pedal car was bought for me
or for an elder sister
or even for my dad
when he was a young boy.
White painted steel
a model of an open top roller
with stirrup pedals on an elliptical cam
to drive the front wheels.
It weighed more than I did
and was too heavy for my spindly legs
so all I could do was roll down the driveway in it
then cry until someone pushed me up again.
A lesson I learned for my first motor car
which broke down often.
