and the cheap Welsh dresser,
where the spare wellingtons were kept
in the warm darkness,
a gallon of wine
fermenting with loud bubbles
on a winter afternoon.
I was always dismissive of Richard Briars
when he called his wine "pea pod burgundy"
when everyone knows pea pod wine
is white.
