falling snow
the world covered in a blanket
electric warmth

The only game my father played
was Cribbage, with a pack of cards
he brought home from National Service;
the three of clubs forever marked
by a cigarette burn and the Queen of Hearts
by a torn-off top corner.
Fifteen-two, Fifteen-four;
six for a threesome
and one for His Knob
which I always found hilarious.
