morning fog
burned away by weak sunshine
Christmas cheer

six months of fast hath reduced my bloated frame
by fifty pounds and more and earned me peace
with the mobility I had regained
and the abilities I have released.
Three days of festive food and drinks to share
with none but those of my beloved heart
have brought anew a weight I have to bear
five pounds put on: the diet I'll restart.
No fruitcake though it be the best of all;
the sleeve of shortbread biscuits I consumed;
a solid box of dates began the fall
devouring chocolate coins, and almond paste resumed.
At least I have the willpower to lose
these festive pounds and more, my pudgy muse.
